Your New Role...

The Jerusalem Photojournalist is responsible for recording events and stories to the highest ethical, aesthetic, editorial and technical standards, functioning as a valued team member by engaging both operationally and editorially with the team, but also operating individually depending on the assignment. In this role you will be working with Newsgathering primarily, but would also be expected to work for Features, Show production and Digital. This would include not only filming video but also taking still photos.

As a Photojournalist you will handle recording news events, using your training and experience to skilfully handle photography, audio, logistics and lighting. You will handle Feature type shooting, interview set ups and Live set ups, working with Satellite trucks, Satellite communications, broadband, bonded cell and other feed technologies and ensuring that Metadata regarding the shoot is handled properly and completed fully. You will be a competent NLE editor capable of quick, independent editorial decision making.

The Jerusalem photojournalist should expect to be on call 24 hours a day, 7 days per week. Jerusalem can be a challenging story, so this position requires a self-starting, editorially-savvy individual capable of working long hours.

Your Role Accountabilities...

  • Newsgathering - Ensuring that all pictures and sound gathered for news and features are of the best quality and are properly recorded, responding at a moment's notice to unexpected breaking news. Shooting live shots and setting up and operating live equipment using both satellite and DNG equipment.
  • Editing/DNG/Producing - Editing and use of DNG/Live and FTP capabilities in the field. Using editorial, technical and productions skills to produce content for air. Conceptualizing with reporters and producers to understand story concepts and provide important feedback to improve on those concepts. Also needs to attend and stay abreast of Company provided Safety and security courses.
  • Maintain Bureau library - Acquiring footage through ftp, edit video, and maintain digital library.
  • Logistics - Gathering proper gear, setting up logistics, traveling and shipping equipment and getting to the assignment with the proper equipment. Also maintaining and cleaning equipment to ensure the longevity and quality of the CNN Equipment.
  • Paperwork - Getting expense reports handed in on time. Responsible for accounting of all expenses on corporate credit cards and submitting them in a timely manner per company guidelines; substantiating these expenses is an important part of the job.

Qualifications & Experience...

  • Proven experience of shooting and editing in the field, with experience in hazardous locations.
  • Experience of organising field logistics and setting up equipment as required.
  • ENG Camera and Field production experience/NLE edit experience.
  • High level of computer skills.
  • Willingness to travel and experience in the Middle East is required.
  • A driving license is required.
  • Knowledge of foreign languages, particularly Hebrew and Arabic, is not required but would be an asset.
