Position Summary

The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) is offering a Fall Internship to a qualified candidate who will support the Human Resources team (People, Strategy & Services). This paid internship is a part time, temporary employment opportunity averaging 20 to 30 hours per week for an undergraduate or postgraduate student. All applicants must be eligible to work in the US and located in the US. Pay Range and Employment Status:

Interns shall be classified as temporary employees who are hired as interim replacements, to temporarily supplement the workforce, or to assist in the completion of a specific project and who are temporarily scheduled to work for a limited duration. Employment beyond any initially stated period does not in any way imply a change in employment status. Temporary workers are not eligible for PCORI benefits.

Current master's level and above students will be paid $20.00 per hour. Bachelor's level students will be paid: $17.50 per hour.

The Human Resources Department is seeking an intern who will have the opportunity to:

  • Gain hands-on experience in developing and implementing recruitment campaigns, interviewing candidates, and understanding the full recruitment lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with Total Rewards, Talent Management and Employee Experience and Culture to develop strategies for marketing the organization to potential candidates.
  • Participate in projects to improve current recruitment processes, organizing HR-related events, and contributing to process improvement initiatives like auditing the ATS and cleaning up SharePoint materials.
  • Enhance communication skills through preparing presentations and reports, responding to employee inquiries, and submitting communications via internal platforms like Asana for the Pulse.
  • Develop administrative skills by managing and organizing HR documentation, such as employee files and job descriptions, and using HR systems and tools for various tasks. This includes creating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and supporting the development and implementation of key HR events and initiatives.

Required Skills

The HR team is seeking an intern that will meet the following requirements:

  • Communication Skills - Essential for conducting interviews, preparing presentations and reports, responding to employee inquiries, and collaborating with different teams.
  • Organizational Skills - Important for managing multiple tasks such as event planning, document management, and coordinating HR processes.
  • Project Management - Key for participating in the development of recruitment campaigns, organizing events, and managing projects like the clean-up of SharePoint materials and job description libraries.
  • Analytical Skills - Needed for identifying areas of opportunity in the recruitment process, auditing employee files, and analyzing data from various HR systems.
  • Technical Proficiency - Includes familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, HRIS, ATS, SharePoint, and project management tools like Asana, essential for executing various tasks efficiently.
  • Problem Solving Skills- Overcoming obstacles by knowing who to engage, collaborate with, triage, and or find resources.
  • Flexibility and Adaptability- Able to course correct and be comfortable with change, having a can-do attitude.

Required Experience

  • Minimum requirement - Pursing or holding a bachelor's degree in HR, Business Administration, Psychology, Communications or a related field.
  • Preferred - Completion of a bachelor's degree, and has completed internships, projects, or practical experiences in HR or related areas.
  • Prior experience in an HR or administrative role is preferred, even if obtained through internships, part-time work, or volunteer positions. This includes familiarity with basic HR functions, knowledge, recruitment processes, or office administration tasks.
  • Involvement in projects that require collaboration, data analysis, or communication skills, such as group assignments, case studies, or organizational initiatives. Experience with event planning or coordination is a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with tools like SharePoint and project management platforms (e.g., Asana). Any hands-on experience with HRIS or ATS systems is advantageous.
  • Experience in positions that required direct interaction with customers or clients, which helps in developing strong communication and interpersonal skills. This can be from retail, hospitality, or any service-oriented job.

Applications for the PCORI Fall Internship Program will be accepted up to 12:00pm EST on Friday, August 2nd, 2024. Applicants who are chosen will be phone screened by PCORI People Strategy and Services. Virtual interviews with relevant intern supervisors will take place from August 12th to August 23rd.
