Prudential's Social Responsibility team is responsible for the development and implementation of the company's philanthropic and employee community engagement strategies which are focused on driving social impact in the following areas:

  • Help individuals, workers and families build financial security and wealth by testing and scaling asset building pathways, creating inclusive financial systems and improving job quality.
  • Create thriving and vibrant local communities by advancing equitable development and economic empowerment and mobility, particularly in our home city of Newark.
  • Strengthen communities and nonprofit organizations through employee community engagement programs and capacity building initiatives.
  • Support disaster relief and recovery efforts for emergencies, natural disasters and humanitarian crises.

The team seeks a Director for the Inclusive Communities portfolio to lead the company's philanthropic strategy in advancing inclusive and equitable growth in Newark. This place-based portfolio invests in partnerships that drive economic vitality and financial prosperity with a focus on equitable development and economic mobility in Newark. The Director will collaborate with internal business partners and external stakeholders to advance the company's role as a leading anchor institution in Newark and manage a grantmaking portfolio of nonprofit partners to advance the company's social impact goals.

The current EWA for this position is Hybrid and requires your on-site presence on a reoccurring basis as determined by your business. Your manager will provide additional details relative to the specific number of days you are expected to be on-site.

What you can expect:

  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight of the Inclusive Communities portfolio and team to drive inclusive economic growth and advance Prudential's role as an anchor institution in its headquarter city of Newark, NJ.
  • Establish funding priorities, program goals & objectives and manage the philanthropic budget of the Inclusive Communities portfolio. Develop funding recommendations, both written and oral, from programmatic, financial, and strategic reviews.
  • Provide strategic relationship management of nonprofit grantee partners through regular communications, anticipating challenges in meeting deliverables and providing technical assistance in execution of their grant deliverables.
  • Develop and cultivate partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to advance the company's philanthropic strategy and inclusive business practices in Newark, NJ.
  • Represent the Inclusive Communities team on internal cross-functional initiatives on topics related to Newark and the intersection of social and business impact goals.
  • Build and lead networks/coalitions with nonprofit partners, policymakers, internal business partners and other funders to accomplish the department goals and objectives.
  • Serve as subject matter expert internally and externally maintaining a breadth of knowledge, including research, current trends, emerging issues, policy interventions, and innovations. Provide guidance and recommendations as requested.
  • Lead the measurement and evaluation of the Inclusive Communities portfolio, including defining impact metrics and conducting data analysis to inform the strategy going forward.
  • Research, develop and present new ideas for strategic initiatives to advance Prudential's social impact strategies.
  • Manage a team dedicated to the execution of the Inclusive Communities portfolio.
  • Raise awareness of the Inclusive Communities impact and portfolio in partnership with communications, including preparing internal and external communication materials such as board reports, issue briefs, website content, speeches, and press releases.
  • Represent Prudential's Social Responsibility team at both internal and external events and stakeholder convenings.
  • Some travel required.

What you'll need:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of professional experience in the philanthropic or nonprofit field.
  • Strong record of achievement in the nonprofit or philanthropic sector and substantive knowledge of the issues related to inclusive economic growth, place-based philanthropic strategies, economic and community development, and economic mobility.
  • A strong understanding of public policy, systems change and community engagement in driving societal change.
  • Experience developing and leading a high performing team. Comfortable with dotted-line and ad-hoc management of team members for projects or initiatives.
  • Demonstrated experience in building effective and strategic partnerships.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively across various lines of business and proactively cultivate relationships with a diverse range of internal and external partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically across a range of social impact issues and topic areas.
  • Excellent writing and communications skills with a proven track record of writing and presenting to a wide range of audiences.
  • Sound judgment and problem-solving skills with a commitment to continual learning.

It'd be a plus if you had:

  • 5+ years leading strategy.
  • Experience working either internally or in partnership with anchor employers in diverse communities.
  • Organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to prioritize.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint and the ability to adapt to new software quickly.

The salary range for this role is from $148,800.00 to $201,200.00. Specific pricing for the role may vary within the above range based on many factors including geographic location, candidate experience, and skills. Roles may also be eligible for additional compensation and/or benefits. Eligibility to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program is subject to the rules governing the program, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance. In addition, employees are eligible for standard benefits package including paid time off, medical, dental and retirement.
